Northwest Frontier Tribesmen

Here's our fearsome Tribesmen to threaten British India during good Queen Vicki's reign. Hordes of Jagers to snipe at the massed ranks. The Fanatics have been based on bigger sized bases, 5 figures to an element, just to give a more 'frightening' effect.... We shall have to see. We've also added some Cavalry elements to the listing.

NorthWest Frontier Tribesmen.
12x Jagers (3-4); 4x Psiloi (5); 8x Fanatics (2-3). PLUS 4xCavalry (2-3)

  1. Boo, hiss!
Those tribesmen will be the "baddies" in my own colonial set up Mr. F.
I see you use DBA rules (or am I mistaken?) And you only have a few figures on each base. I've never used DBA rules because I like plenty of figures on my table (even going as far as making my own 6mm scale figures/units for the 18th Century campaign I run - I only buy in the artillery men & equipment).

I was wondering how you base your figures? I'm searching around for suitable materials so that I can base one, or perhaps two, figures per base (so they can fight separately, or in pairs) and then fit these individual bases onto larger bases (say, company, or battalion size) for ease of movement at the start of the game.

By the way, I generally use a figure scale of 1 figure = 20 men for all my 15mm figure games (i.e. the medieval period).

PS. Nice pics. by the way.

  2. Cheers Steve, yes we do play DBA for Ancients & Medievals. DBA 1500-1900 Extensions for that period, link on the right of the site. We have dabbled in DBN for Napoleonics & used HITT (a HOTT variant) for WW1 - Russo/Japanese War.

We're currently building Armies for the Crimean War as well, I still haven't decided what to use for them.

DBx uses 2 figures for Psiloi/Jagers, 3 for Auxilia/Warband, 4 for Spears/Blades/Musket/Rifles. 2 figures for Light Horse, 3 for Cavalry.
We stick the figures on with Bostik or Uhu. We use 40x20mm, 40x30mm and 40x40mm MDF bases. They take the basing material much better. We have a substance called BaseTex for the majority of our bases,Irregular Minis sell it, a acrylic basing material. Optionally it's just PVA glue covering the base with sand then applied & overbrushed with a light colour. That's what we used for the Afghans & Middle East WW1 Brits.

  3. Yet another excellent army!

I only wish that my own efforts at painting and basing looked as good as yours.

Keep up the good work as I find it particularly inspiring when I read your battle reports.

  4. Cheers Bob, I've been 'in the zone' lately with painting. I'm halfway through building/painting some Crimean War forces. Though gaming has took a back seat. That's going to change around after they're finished.

I liked your article on Mountain terrain, I'm going to be building some of our own soon.

  6. Cheers Peeler! I just need to get some 'Mountain' terrain scratch built now & some scenarios sorted. I reckon it will a very different type of game due to all those Jager elements the Tribesmen have.
