DBA II/2 Mountain Indian 500-170BC

Ancient Mountain Indians, very agile & good in the Rough Going. We went with the Elephant General though! To give them a bit a of a 'Wild' theme, the shields of the troop types were painted representing various big cats.

DBA IV/55b Later Ottoman 1362-1512

Our Later Ottoman Army, lots more Cavalry at the expense of Light Horse. Still a very mobile Army, but with some Bows & Artillery for firepower. The funky shields on some of the Light Cavalry, are 'sequins' from the little'uns Art Box. On the battlefield they catch the light & look great.

BoB4 Scots Common vs Highlands & Isles

Part 4, Jack took the Highland & Isles Lads, while I the Scots Common. We threw for the Attacker & I won. BOO.... I didn't want that. Jack set the terrain, A wood, two hills & a colourful Stonehenge - to be treated as rough. I was very fearful of the Highland & Isles lads, all those Blades very going to be tough to beat. I knew from the table edge Jack got, that he'd ATTACK in one big line. To counter this my plan was not to engage 'en masse'. To win I'd have to chip away at bits of his Army. The Pike would be the centre, the Warband put out on the wing & use the Hill for an advantage. The Killer group, would be the General, Robert the Bruce with the SWIFT attribute & a supporting Psiloi. The Scots Bows would be used as bait....

------------------------

The Highland & Isles Mob, Jack feared for his Bows & put them at the back....STRANGE?

------------------------
Scots Common set up, the 'Hunter group' on the flank, Warband the other. Pike the centre.
------------------------
Direction of Attacks, the key for the Scots would be to 'draw off' some of Jacks Blades.
Jacks plan was to get in close & hack away.
------------------------
Steady Lads..!!! The Scots Pike look on.
------------------------
Were off, getting the high ground would be critical.
------------------------
The Warband race for the left hill.
------------------------
Yes!! Jack takes the bait & splits his force.....
------------------------
He turns his Bows in the background, but have they got too much ground to make up?
------------------------
A few turns in, the Army positions.
------------------------
It's going well, for once a plan is working....
------------------------
On comes the Highlands Mob, Jack also takes the bait of the Bows....
------------------------
The main battle line of the Higland Mob comes on.
------------------------
Charge..!!! In goes the Bruce. But the first round is a Scots Recoil... HHhhhmmppphh!
------------------------
Another round, try again & success...!!

------------------------
Nice view across the battlefield. Scots Warband in the foreground.
------------------------
The Scots Pike would have to hold their ground...
------------------------
The Highland & Isles Bows close the ground.

------------------------
Knight General vs Warband.....

------------------------
In go the Psiloi as well.....
------------------------
The Wildmen are Mincemeat, 2-0 to the Scots Common Army.
------------------------
In go the Highlands & Isles Blades against the Scots Warband.
------------------------
The Dice Gods Shine Down!!!!! Another Blade down this time to Scots Pike.

------------------------
3-0 to The Bruce, Battlefield overview. It's a scary moment for the Bruce though as the Bows come into range, the dice are thrown & LUCKILY he escapes. The Psiloi are sent in to cover his escape...
------------------------
The Highland Lads are in trouble. Magnus Bearlegs has the 'IDIOT' attribute & has to deduct one from his PIP Roll. A few times in the battle the Army is left unable to move.....
------------------------
One more Kill to go, the Scots Bows have stayed one step ahead of the Highland Blades. Now they go & support the Bruce.
------------------------
The dice are brutal, down go the Blades........
------------------------
Victory for the Scots Common Army...... Final Overview.
------------------------

'I love it when a plan comes together...'. Victory for the Scots Common Army & an impressive one as well. Jack agrees he got caught out, but takes defeat in good spirit. Well, well, we've finally seen how powerful Knights can be in combat, which is about time for one of our games. That's NINE more points for the Scots Common Army, but a big fat ZERO for the Highland & Isles Lads. Next up will be the Welsh vs the Highland & Isles Lads. Leaving the juicy prospect of Robert the Bruce leading the Scots Common Army against the old enemy, the Feudal English. Victory would give the Scots the title of Champions of Britain. (Jack has already said he'll be the Scots for that one....)

Battle of Britain Scores after two rounds:
  1. Scots Common = 18
  2. Welsh = 10
  3. Highland & Isles = 9
  4. Feudal English = 3

BoB3 Welsh vs Feudal English

The third battle of this epic saga, Jack took the Welsh & I the English. The die decided that Jack would be defending, he promptly sets the terrain. A Wood, Marsh & a rather large hill placed on the table, albeit not true DBA placement. Unfortunately for me, the Die roll for the table edge was not what I wanted. I reckon Jack has JEDI powers & so he would get the side he wanted...

----------------------------
The opening positions & direction of attacks. Sensing an opportunity, I knew he would defend the hill. My Knights would plunge down one flank, the Foot advance up the middle & a daring attack by the Cavalry on the other. Would it work...?
----------------------------
I shake my head in disbelief, Jack rolls a SIX for initial PIPS & his Psiloi race for the Swamp.
----------------------------
English Bows are sent to the flank, just in case the Welsh Psiloi go 'Camp Hunting'
----------------------------
Oooh... I'm not happy with that Psiloi..
----------------------------
Would the Welsh stay on the Hill..?

----------------------------
Stick to the Plan, the English Cavalry continue onwards.
----------------------------
There would be no Knights charging Bows in this game...
----------------------------
English Bows are sent to clear the Swamp.
----------------------------
The English Kings 'WISE' attribute would help with PIPS.
----------------------------
Strangely, the Welsh Psiloi emerges from the Swamp. Arrows fly into them.

----------------------------
The English Knight Column is soon checked by double ranked Welsh Spears. While an extra English Bow element helps out with the pesky Welsh Psiloi.
----------------------------
Soon the sound of English arrows fills the air...
----------------------------
Strike one Welsh Psiloi...
----------------------------
The English Knights flounder on the flank.
----------------------------
Jack senses the danger & the Welsh King himself deals with the problem.

----------------------------
No! The Heroic English Cavalry fall!
----------------------------
English Bows are sent on a 'King Hunt'!
----------------------------
The English centre advances, I struggle with the Knights positioning.
----------------------------
Jack foolishly moves elements behind the line... English arrows fly, the Welsh Bow recoils.... into one of the moving elements. That's another Welsh element down, 2-1 to the English.
----------------------------
I send some Knights to the other flank.
----------------------------
Now it's time for Welsh arrows to fly. The dice shine for the Welsh, down goes an English Bow.
----------------------------
HA! HA! Jack doesn't like the English Bows advancing on King Owen. He legs it back to his camp. My taunts are loud, English Bowmen mock the King with 'V' signs.
----------------------------
It's too much for Jack, 'The Dragon awakes' his plan of defense goes in his red mist. Screaming Welshmen charge down the hill....!!!
----------------------------
Suddenly the smile is wiped from my face. I don't like the look of some of these line ups.
----------------------------
The dice are rolled & charts are checked.... Down goes some arrogant English Knights. The Hordes are also sent packing.
----------------------------
To quote Victor Meldrew "I don't believe it!!". On my turn, I withdraw the Knights & charge in the English King. The fearless English Hordes attack the Welsh Bows.
----------------------------
Our house rule is that the Attacker always rolls first, it's a good roll... But fortune smiles for the Welsh & Jacks roll ties the combat. Now it's Jacks turn for the taunts....AAAArrggh!
----------------------------
Jacks round... The Welsh Spears charge into English Hordes.
----------------------------
The English Hordes are cut down.... Jacks laughing out loud & I'm shaking my head.....
----------------------------
Final positions, the English are sent packing.
----------------------------

Oh no, my head is in my hands, Jacks mocking is slightly annoying but very amusing. What's that saying about 'Best laid plans......'. A cracking game, very enjoyable. At least I didn't lose any Knights to Bowmen.

Well that puts the Valleyboys in the lead. Nine more points for the Welsh & a measly two for the Feudal English. Next up, Battle of Scotland.. Scots Common vs Highlands & Isles.
