DBA 15-19K. New Model Army vs Dutch 1655

1655, Lord Protector Big Bad Ollie reigns supreme, the New Model Army thrashes all comers.  However the Dutch get out of hand & sink a few English ships in the Channel.  Ollie sends in the New Model Army to 'teach the Dutch a lesson'.

Amy takes the role of Big Bad Ollie, the English Army must attack a Dutch Army protected by a Redoubt.  The help out, the English fleet add an extra element to the battle (Move 200 paces on water, treat as a Cannon range 1000 paces).  Yours truly takes the Dutch.  Knowing Amy, she'll take as many mounted options as possible.

The Battlefield

The mighty English Knights & Pistols.

Pike & Shot of the New Model Army

The Dutch Army

The Dutch Redoubt containing four elements.
Manned by Scots & Irish Mercenaries...

The English attack...

BOOM! The cannons of the English fleet ring out.

Cromwell leads forward the English Horse.

The Lord Protector

The Scots are wiped out...

Clash of horse...

In go the Dutch, get'em lads!

Amy wastes no time & attacks the Redoubt.

The Dutch Dragoons fall, but the English Horse is repulsed.

Attack!

'Ruthless Amy', the Redoubt is stormed....

Alas, the English Horse wins through!

The final positions.

Amy's back to winning ways, her five elements of Horse were way to much for my Dutchmen.  Oh well until next time...

DBA EIR Romans vs Early Germans - 'Vindobona'

Well, well, well, we have been away from blogging for a long time now.  What's changed then?  We have just been on holiday touring the south of dear old England in the Fazzy mobile & took in a few historic sites.  Amy & I watched 'Gladiator' so on our return....

The year is 180 AD, the place Vindobona somewhere in the Germanic lands.  Amy takes the role of Maximus & the jolly Romans.  Yours truly takes the great unwashed horde of German Barbarians.  A nice slugfest to get back into DBA...  The Romans army comprises of 2 Cavalry, 4 blades, 4 Aux, 1 Bow & 1 Artillery.  The Germans 11 Warband & 1 Psiloi.. Simples!

The Battlefield

Inspiration....

Side view, Romans on the left...

The race to engage...

In range... FIRE CATAPULTS!!

In go the BarBars!!!

RRRAAAArrrgghh!!!

and again RRRaaaargghh!!

First kill for the Germans, but a few recoils...

The Germanic General makes a kill...

The Romans turn, Amy pulls one back, BUT it's another for Ze Germans...

In goes Maximus but he hits a brick wall... boinggg!

It's looking good for the Germans.

Ohh! What a ferocious bunch...

Amy digs deep & comes up with a few good rolls...

Maximus goes for it!

Rahoo! One more kill for the Romans 3-3!

In go Ze Germans....

HA! The dice gods abandon Maximus... A thrashing from the Germans...

A nice battle & Maximus says it all for the Romans!  Hopefully we'll get a few more games played...

DBACW Battle of Kernstown Part 3

Work..Work..Work... yawn - no time for play.

Right, the final session of our Battle of Kernstown.  The Union forces are spread thin, Jacksons Brigade are assaulting the main hill in the centre held by the Union Artillery.  Could Jack get his Union troops in a position to win the day?

On come the Stonewall Brigade, straight into the Union Cannons..

On the far Rebel left, Tyler's Union Brigade attack.

FIRE !!!!

Casualties mount in the centre right, the Rebs are holding their own.

A Union Regiment bites the dust....

Plus one of  Tylers Brigade melts away in front of the Reb guns...
the rest are sent packing.

Some of the Stonewall Brigade charge up the hill...

The Reb Artillery again finds it's mark...

It's chaos in the centre...

Too late, Jack sends some Union troops to hold the hill.

Tyler's Brigade retires to reform...

The Stonewall Brigade is rock hard...

Up close on 'The HILL'

It's too much for Jack, he's had enough & his Union troops retreat...

The Battlefield at the end...

Victory for the Confederates & well within the time limit too.  DBACW works well, another hit from KISR.  There's some nice touches to it.  Morale does play a big part we felt, the Stonewall Brigade was rock hard.  Jack did get his tactics wrong for holding them back.  Time's short - I'll try and add more thoughts later...
