FP2 Skirmish at Quimper-Bourget

French Infantry at Quimper-Bourget
More action from the Franco-Prussian War now.  We continued to use the DBACW ruleset, with both sides taking 24 points.  The forces would be Advance Guards for the main armies racing towards each other.  As such the majority of the points would be on Cavalry & Light Infantry (Sharpshooters in DBACW).  Casualties would come in the form of red & yellow counters.  Red for 'Shaken' status (-1 modifier) & Yellow for 'Badly Shaken' (-2 modifier).   Generals could remove counters, 1 for each PiP spent.  Also troop quality would be a factor, Veteran, Trained & Raw troops could be selected.

French Advance Guard  - 24 Pts
French Advance Guard
1 'Average' General, 4 x Trained Sharpshooters, 1 x Gatling, 2 x Artillery, 2 x Veteran Rifles (Imperial Guard), 4 x Trained Rifles, 4 x Raw Rifles, 5 x Trained Cavalry (Dragoons), 1 x Veteran Cavalry (Cuirassiers), also an extra General (Poor) was purchased.  This gave the French two PiP die rolls.

Prussian Advance Guard - 24 Pts
Prussian Advance Guard
1 'Good' General, 8 x Trained Sharpshooters (Jaegers), 1 x Horse Artillery, 4 x Trained Rifles (Prussian), 4 x Raw Rifles (Bavarians), 4 x Trained Cavalry (Uhlans,Hussars,Dragoons), 2 x Veteran Cavalry (Cuirassiers), also an extra General (Average) was purchased.  This also gave the Prussians two PiP die rolls.

Prussian Initial Moves, Uhlans on the left, Main Body in the centre, Jaegers on the right

Prussian Cavalry lead the way

Hordes of French Dragoons arrive.

The first contact, the French Cavalry has the initiative.

Good PiPs for the Prussians & an explosion of movement

The Battlefield takes shape, the better PiPs for the Prussians.

The Prussian Cavalry get the better of the first contact

Prussian Jaegers on the left....

.....Prussian Jaegers on the right!

The rest of the French finally arrive.

The French guns prove slow to deploy

Another French casualty

Pot shots at the retreating French Dragoons

Another Cavalry action...

The Prussian Cuirassiers destroy some more French Dragoons

The French Imperial Guard go for the farmhouse

The Prussian Horse artillery prove their worth

At last! The French Sharpshooters have an effect.

Charge!!!

The French Mitralleuse (Yes we know it's a Gardner Gun.. SSshhh) gets into position...

Success & Failure for the French Imperial Guard

The main Prussian force is first to get into position

Another one bites the dust....

French Artillery finds its range & forces back the Bavarians.

Sacre Bleau! At last a Prussian casualty....

...and another, a French comeback????

Prussian cavalry plug the gap.

The Prussian Main attack is poised...

The French Imperial Guard take the farmhouse....

The French Sharpshooters take the rough ground...

In go the Prussian Infantry!!!

So do the Bavarians

Ohhh! Back go the Prussians

However the French are slowly forced back....

The Prussian left is stalled...

Some success for the French on the other side of the battlefield.

It's vicious hand to hand combat

The Bavarians win the day!!!

Final Positions, a Prussian Victory
A cracking game, the Sharpshooters proved a great success for both sides.  Fast moving & hard to kill. Again the DBACW rules worked really well.  Getting an extra General for both sides made a big difference.  Good PiPs for the Prussians early on made a difference as well. Troop Quality helped out.  The extra points for the Prussian Cuirrasiers for example, however the Bavarians won the day & they were only RAW quality.  In the right place at the right time....  By the way, Amy took the Prussians - Boo Hiss.  Bring on the FieldMarshall PiPPin Von Krum!!!

HHOOOOOWwwwwwlllll!!!!

What else but a Prussian Victory!!!!

DBA15-19K Battle of Chézy-sur-Marne

The Prussian Hordes have invaded France!  Brave Frenchmen rally to the Flag, Protect France!

The Battle of Chézy-sur-Marne, the heroic French Forces(yours truly) against the evil dastardly Prussians (the petulant teenager Jack).  We used the DBA15-19K Humberside extensions.  Pretty similar army selections, the main difference listing the Prussian Troops having Muskets against the French having Rifles.  Also the Prussians have double the number of Cannons.  This is to reflect both sides having the 'upper hand' in the respective technologies.  Two 12 element Armies for each side, the town of Chézy-sur-Marne is defended by a redoubt (+1 to defence).   Amy sat this one out, preferring to watch the grudge match of Dad vs Jack. (Jack keeps whooping me in any console game lately, ggrrrrr I'm getting old)

View from behind the French lines...

...and the other side.

On come the Prussian Columns

Brave Frenchman ready the defences!!

BOOM! First Blood to the French! A Bavarian element is wiped out...

The other flank & the Prussians move quickly...

Poor rifle fire from the French

The Bavarians deploy into line

BOOM! The Prussian guns ring out...

Weapons ring out on both sides, mixed results....

Forward men, there's no enemy in the centre!!!

Oh, he's going to attack the guns...

Ready to rumble on the other flank

The Prussians press the attack!!

BOOM! A brave French element falls to the guns...

WWWWAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

The Battle is in full swing now... No quarter

The Prussians charge the guns....

Ferocious hand to hand combat

Jack's attack is repulsed....

It's close at this stage of the game

The centre is open, the French troops rush to take the Prussian Guns...

'Allo Allo' Germans!

HA! the French are fighting well....

BOO! Jack rolls a a 6 for PiPs & his troops explode into action..

The Prussian Cuirassiers charge in.....

The centre turns into a confused fight

A mighty scrap on the other side

HA HA! The combat odds are stacked against the Cuirassiers & both bite the dust....

The Prussians are getting WHOOPED!  One force is now broken....

Great PiPS for the French & it's like a swarm, pile in!  Jacks not happy...

A massacre is on the cards.....

Attack!!!!

Even the Prussian Guns are under threat.....

Victory is near for the Brave French......

"Yer joking aren't yer?"  Somehow a Massacre is avoided.....
The first attack had Infantry supported by Cavalry, the 2nd just the Cavalry.

VICTORY FOR THE FRENCH, the Prussians are legging it....

You said it mate....

Final positions..
Good Game, Good Game....  A nice one to have after some of our monster battles lately.  The rules worked well, I thought the French would be blown off the field, but the Prussian Guns were disappointing.  (mental note all guns will be +5 instead of +4 for future games).  The only difference between Rifles & Muskets was the range.  The Prussian Cuirassiers became unstuck, Rifles Quick Kill Mounted..

Victory at Chézy-sur-Marne! Well that's Amy & I making 'hand trumpets', we blast out the " La Marseillaise" & the petulant teenager Jack is banished back to his bedroom pit & the sinister world of online XBox 360, he takes it well & nothing is thrown at me .. this time...!!

Everybody.... Du Du Duu DUUUU du DUUUU du du DUUUU!
