Project Arthur

Another goal for this year.  I plan on creating 5 different DBA armies based on the Age of Arthur, Warhammer Ancient Battles source book.  Another cracking piece of work, lots of lovely inspiration.  It's been out a few years now but I'm determined to build some armies.

The five armies will be, Arthur's Army, Vortigern's Army (both Sub Roman Brits variants), Scots- Irish, Picts & Early Saxon.  The Picts & Scots-Irish will be very Chariot heavy.  I've collected enough figures for each army, though I keep changing my mind of some characters.  The first one is nearly completed, here are a few pics of the basic army.

DBA 3.0 IV/20 Ayyubid Egyptian 1171-1250AD

Put together for sale on EBay, two Ayyubid Egyptian Armies.  Super colourful, Cavalry Heavy, highly mobile.  I don't know what figures the majority are, they came as a job lot of about 200 Arab Riders without any horses.  There are some Essex Minis though.  Recently added are some Donnington Miniatures, the Arab Archers, Saladin & some of the barded horses.  Very good value at 60P for a mounted figure, 30P for foot.

Project Flodden

I've lost the gaming 'mojo' over the past few years, the kids (my opponents) are growing up.  Work has took it's toll.  I've spent the past year on raising funds to pay for my super bicycle, so energies were spent on selling armies on EBay - awful absolutely awful.....

Anyway, I've been determined to get back into gaming, I've got two projects in mind.  The first is the Battle of Flodden 1513, I've always been fascinated by it.  Though it's a battle that's not very famous, odd considering it was fought on British soil & King James of Scotland was killed in it.

The plan then, using DBA 3.0 rules & lists, is to build two BBDBA armies, then have a game/campaign.  The DBA lists have the IV/83a Tudor English list 1513 & the IV/16 Scots Common Army list ends at 1513.  I don't want to just have the armies sitting around after the project is over, so I intend to use the English Army as a basis for a Henry VIII campaign.  We already have Italian Wars Armies, so battles with the French will be a future prospect.

Going through the 'Hordes of spare figures', we have a fair size English Army to begin with.  It will be primarily a Foot Army.  Composed mainly of Billmen & Archers.  It appears Cavalry/Knights didn't get a look in at Flodden.  Anyway more to come....

DBA 3.0 II/26 Later Rhoxolanian Sarmatian

A possible 12 Knight Army, who can resist the wonderful Sarmatians.  The majority of this lot were picked up as a bargain buy, a few extra bases & here we have the finished army.  The DBA 3.0 list goes a bit further & allows the addition of foot sloggers in the guise of 3 Psiloi or 3 Hordes.  I used some Anglo-Saxon Spearmen figures for the hordes of Sarmation farmers, close enough.  The rank & file Sarmation Knights are coloured to reflect the green/red/blue horse hoof armour.  The nobles & the King are mounted on metal barded hoses with equivalent armour.

DBA 3.0 IV/35 Mongol Conquest 1205AD - 1266AD

The new rules must make the Mongol Conquest (& other steppe armies) a lot more potent.  The list itself gives more options, with a possible 6 Cavalry & 6 Light Horse.  If anyone has played a few games with the Mongol Horde then leave some comments.

This lot are a mix of different figure manufacturers.  The last option allows 3 x Cv or Lh from vassal subjects.  This army had strong bias to the Seljuk Turks.

DBA 3.0 II/56 Early Imperial Romans

The DBA 3.0 Army Lists brought a few changes, a noticeable one to the Early Imperial Romans.   There is space now for a lot more options.  Gladiators, Lancers, Warband & now Camels...
We have shed loads of Romans, enough for two BBDBA Armies.  However we all have to cut down, austerity is here after all....zzz   I'll be putting two of them up for sale on EBAY, along with the extra elements for DBA 3.0
