Indian Mutineers 1857-1859

'Throw the White Sahibs out of India....!'

Well here we go again, Down with the British. This time it's the Indian Mutiny or Sepoy Rebellion or Great Rebellion, whatever take your pick. Reading into the events, it was a very brutal affair. Here's a link to Wikipedia for a bit of further reading....
There is no specific Army in the DBA 1500-1900 lists so this is what we went with.

Indian Mutineers 1857-59
6x4 Muskets (Rebel Indian Infantry), 1x3 Cavalry, 2x2 Light Horse,
2x Cannon, 8x Fanatic, 2x2 Psiloi.

I reckon these will give the Brits a run for their money, hopefully we'll get a few linked games run soon. Plus we've built enough troops for a double sized game...

The American Cavalry engage the Hessian's...

That's better, now the British centre is reinforced.

___________________________________
The poor French are taking a beating.

___________________________________
The casualties are now becoming critical for the American force.

___________________________________
The battle for Hessian Hill is still fierce.

___________________________________
American steel is too much for the Hessian's.

___________________________________
'NO QUARTER!' The French Infantry are about to fall.

___________________________________
The British Grenadiers are now advancing.

___________________________________
The Queens Hussars are sent against the American Cavalry.

___________________________________
Hessian firepower repels Lafayette's troops.

___________________________________
Everyone is doing the 'Recoil Shuffle'.....

___________________________________
Another French Infantry formation falls to the British Musket.

___________________________________
....and another to British steel.

___________________________________
The horror's launch a final attack on Hessian Hill.

___________________________________
The American Cavalry chase another fox, whilst the Queens Hussars are
left facing the rifles of the American Jagers.

___________________________________
Nasty American Cavalry....

___________________________________
Bye, Bye, Frenchmen...

___________________________________
The British force their way through....

___________________________________
'BOOM!' Now the British Artillery are doing the damage....

___________________________________
The Hessian's give it big legs....

___________________________________
The musketry is still spot on for both sides, given that it's late in the battle.

___________________________________
Tarleton enjoying his day out.... Chasing the French Fox.

___________________________________
The British troops give a loud HooRah for the victorious Arnold.

___________________________________
'Down with King George', not today mate...

___________________________________
Jack & Amy are determined to take Hessian Hill.....

Cornwallis urges his men on.

Back go the Continentals & it's too much for George W.

Final Positions.

For Breakpoint purposes, Jagers only counted as half a point. Plus we used a Recoil Casualty system for this one. Small bits of gravel being used as markers. Hence a lot of casualties occurred later in the game.

A mighty scrap indeed, this one took a few sittings. Well where did it go wrong for the Jack & Amy's American/French connection..? It was bright start, I did think that the British centre was going to break, because the combats went to the horror's. The failure to destroy the two British Grenadiers was the turning point. Lafayette's command had shocking PiPs throughout the game which was also a shame. Well the Revolution will have to wait a little bit longer!

Indian Mutiny British 1857-1859

I've been bitten by the bug again... This time it's the Victorian British in India, but also the Afghan Wars & then I thought 'well why not the Crimea' as well. So the first phase of this current project is to build and run some Indian Mutiny Armies. I've picked up a few books on the period & dug deep through the various wargames mags stored in the Fazzy archives... The best being Ospreys Indian Mutiny & The North West Frontier. Donald Featherstones Victorian Colonial Warfare in India. Plus last, but by no means least, Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy #39 covering the Indian Rebellion. Eventually, we'll also build & morph armies for the North West Frontier, Sikh Wars & the Crimea.

First up though, using the DBA 1500-1900 Army lists, the Victorian British Army. The list is pretty robust & covers a multitude of years & campaigns, but it's a good starting point.
